Behind the project
Cold openers can be seen all over television programs. Some examples of TV shows that contain cold openers are "The Office", "Parks and Recreation", "Letter Kenny", "Rick and Morty", and "Gravity Falls". They are meant to capture a quick feeling and set the tone of an episode usually prior to the intro song.
The university I attend is just starting to develop a fully functioning animation program and thus it is given a little attention and it not currently taken too seriously. Because of this, being a 2D animation student, that is not fully encouraged to do a fully 2D animated senior project, I had been given a very small-time frame to make such a project happen considering all the other classes also take up valuable time. Thus, with the persuasion of my peer, James Standish, I chose to make one of my already written script's cold opens.
This cold open is written for the beginning of episode three of "The Lumberjack Universe", 'Sedonia to Cottonhood'. This explains why the characters are allowed to exist without too much introduction. This cold open is meant to ramp up in pace due to the sudden increase of intensity as more ideas are thrown at you until the climax, which reveals why the intensity was caused in the first place. This situation allows the audience to be creative triggering fear of the unknown as well as sparking sudden curiosity.
